Lord's Prayer

The model prayer which Jesus taught His disciples (Matt 6:5-15; Luke 11:1-4.) In the Gospel of Matthew the Lord's Prayer occurs in the Sermon on the Mount. He emphasized that prayer should not be an attempt to get God's attention by repeating words. Instead, it should be a quiet, confident expression of needs to our heavenly Father. Our attitude in prayer is important; in the Sermon on the Mount Jesus shows His disciples how to pray.
In the Gospel of Luke, the disciples saw Jesus praying, and they asked Him to teach them. The emphasis of this gospel is on what to pray (11:2.) It is good to use the Lord's Prayer as a guide and to repeat its words as well.
The first part of the prayer concerns the glory of Gos. We call him "father." a term which only His children by faith in Christ may rightly use. We request that God's name be "hallowed," or honored as holy. It is the mission of God's people to spread the reutation of His namemthroughout the world (Ezek 36:22-23.)
Next, we request that God's kingsom come. This means that we acknowledge God as ruler of the world and obey His will. His will shall be done perfectly when our Lord returns

LORD'S PRAYER
Requests relating to our own needs include food for each day, forgiveness, and help in temptation. Workers in Jesus' time often were hired day by day. They knew their daily need. Our forgiveness for sin comes only through the death of Christ on the cross. Our experience of that forgiveeness requires us not to hold against others and not to deny God's forgiveness.
"Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil" means, "Do not let us be tested so that we fall into sin; save us from the power of the Evil One (satan.)"
The conclusion of the Lord's Prayer attributes all power and glory to God forever, through all eternity. This part of the prayer should be evident in our lives each day as we seek to do God's will on earth as His disciples.

Matt 6:9-13

Our Father which art in heaven.
Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kindom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
